కరోనా వైరస్: ఈ ప్రపంచాన్ని నాశనం చేసే కొత్త మహమ్మారి ఇదేనా

నెల కిందట చైనాలో బయటపడ్డ కరోనా వైరస్ ఇప్పటికే 20కి పైగా దేశాలకు వ్యాపించింది. ఇది ఇంకా ఎన్ని దేశాలకు వ్యాపిస్తుందో, ఇంకెంతమంది దీని బారిన పడతారో అని నిపుణులు ఆందోళన చెందుతున్నారు. దీన్ని ఇప్పటివరకు మహమ్మారిగా ప్రకటించనప్పటికీ ముందుముందు ప్రపంచం ఎదుర్కోబోయే మహమ్మారి ఇదే కావచ్చన్న అంచనాలతో సిద్ధమవుతున్నారు.

మహమ్మారి అంటే..

ఏకకాలంలో ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా అనేక మంది ప్రజలకు ముప్పుగా పరిణమించే అంటు రోగాల తీవ్రతను చెప్పడానికి ఈ పదాన్ని వాడతారు. ఇటీవలి కాలంలో చూస్తే 2009లో ఒక్కసారిగా విజృంభించిన స్వైన్ ఫ్లూను మహమ్మారిగా చెప్పవచ్చు. అప్పుడు ఈ వ్యాధి బారిన పడి ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా వేలాది మంది ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారు.

అంతవరకు గుర్తించని కొత్త వైరస్‌లు, ఒకరి నుంచి మరొకరికి సులభంగా సోకేవి మహమ్మారులుగా మారతాయి. కరోనా వైరస్ ఈ కోవలోకే వస్తోంది. దీన్ని నివారించడానికి ఇంకా వ్యాక్సిన్లు కానీ, నయం చేయడానికి సమర్థమైన చికిత్సలు కానీ ఇంకా అందుబాటులోకి రానందున దీని వ్యాప్తిని అరికట్టలేకపోతున్నారు.

మహమ్మారి అని ఎప్పుడు ప్రకటిస్తారు?

ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్థ వివరణ ప్రకారం చూస్తే కరోనా వైరస్‌ను మహమ్మారిగా ప్రకటించడానికి ఇంకో అడుగు దూరం మాత్రమే ఉంది. ఇది ప్రజల్లో ఒకరి నుంచి మరొకరికి వేగంగా సోకుతుండడమే కాకుండా చైనా పొరుగు దేశాలంతటా, వాటిని దాటి ఇతర దేశాలకూ వ్యాపించింది. ప్రపంచంలోని అనేక ప్రాంతాల్లో, అక్కడి సమాజాల్లో ఇది తరచూ ప్రబలుతున్నట్లుగా గుర్తిస్తే మహమ్మారిగా పేర్కొంటారు.

అలాంటి ప్రమాదం ఉందా?

కరోనా వైరస్ తీవ్రత ఎంత ప్రమాదకరస్థాయిలో ఉంది... ఇది ఎంత దూరం వ్యాపించొచ్చన్న విషయంలో ఇంకా స్పష్టత రాలేదు. ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్థ సంచాలకుడు జనరల్ టెడ్రాస్ అద్నామ్ గ్యాబ్రియేసస్ చెబుతున్న ప్రకారం చైనా వెలుపల దీని వ్యాప్తి పరిధి, వేగం రెండూ తక్కువగానే ఉన్నాయి.

ఇప్పటివరకు 17 వేల మందికి కరోనా వైరస్ సోకినట్లు నిర్ధరించారు. సుమారు 360 మంది ఈ వైరస్ సోకి మరణించారు. వీటిలో అత్యధికం చైనాలో నమోదైనవే. చైనాయేతర దేశాల్లో 150 కేసులు నిర్ధరణ కాగా, ఫిలిప్పీన్స్‌లో ఒకరు ఈ వైరస్ బారిన పడి మృతిచెందినట్లు గుర్తించారు.

ప్రతి మహమ్మారీ దేనికది భిన్నమని.. దాని ప్రభావాన్ని అంచనా వేయడం అంత సులభం కాదని నిపుణులు చెబుతున్నారు. గతంలో ప్రబలిన సార్స్ వంటి వైరస్‌లతో పోల్చితే కరోనా అంత ప్రాణాంతకమైనది కాదన్నది నిపుణుల మాట. మనుషుల్లో ఒకరి నుంచి ఒకరికి ఈ వైరస్ సోకుతున్నందున, బలహీనమైన ఆరోగ్య సేవల వ్యవస్థలున్న దేశాల్లో కనుక ఇది ప్రబలితే ప్రమాదమేనన్న ఉద్దేశంతో ప్రపంచ ఆరోగ్య సంస్థ దీన్ని పబ్లిక్ హెల్త్ ఎమర్జెన్సీ ఆఫ్ ఇంటర్నేషనల్ కన్సర్న్ (పీహెచ్ఈఐసీ)గా ప్రకటించాలని ఇప్పటికే ప్రాథమికంగా నిర్ణయించింది.
