కాంచీపురంకు టెంపుల్ సిటీ అనే పేరుంది. సుప్రసిద్ధ ఆలయాలన్నీ కంచిలోనే కొలువై వున్నాయి. అలాంటి ప్రఖ్యాత ఆలయాల్లో వరదరాజ స్వామి ఆలయం ఒకటి. ఈ ఆలయంలోని అత్తి వరద స్వామిని ఆలయ కొలను నుంచి 40 ఏళ్ల తర్వాత 48 రోజుల పాటు వెలుపలికి తీశారు. భక్తుల సందర్శనార్థం స్వామిని వుంచారు.
జూలై 1వ తేదీ నుంచి శ్రీ వరద రాజ స్వామి ఆలయంలో శయనస్థితిలో అత్తివరద స్వామి భక్తులకు దర్శనమిచ్చారు. ప్రస్తుతం అంటే ఆగస్టు 1వ తేదీ (గురువారం) నుంచి అత్తివరదర్.. నిండ్ర తిరుక్కోలం (నిల్చుని స్థితిలో) భక్తులను అనుగ్రహిస్తున్నాడు. ప్రస్తుతం స్వామిని దర్శించుకునేందుకు దేశ వ్యాప్తంగా భారీ స్థాయిలో భక్తులు వస్తున్నారు.
ఇన్నాళ్లు శయనస్థితిలో దర్శనమిచ్చిన అత్తివరద స్వామి ఇక నిల్చునే స్థితిలో దర్శనమిస్తాడు. ఇలా 17 రోజుల పాటు స్వామిని దర్శించుకోవచ్చునని ఆలయ నిర్వాహకులు, తమిళనాడు సర్కారు ప్రకటించింది. ఇంతవరకు 45లక్షల మంది స్వామిని దర్శించుకున్నారని, ఇంకా 17 రోజుల పాటు భక్తులను అనుగ్రహించే అత్తివరదర్ను రోజుకు రెండు లక్షల దర్శించుకుంటారని తెలుస్తోంది.
ఆలయంలోని అనంతసరసుగా చెప్పుకునే పవిత్ర కోనేరు నీటిలో స్వామివారిని 40 ఏళ్ల పాటు భద్రపరస్తారు. ఆ తర్వాత అంటే నలభై ఏళ్ల తరువాత స్వామి వారిని బయటకు తీసి, పూర్తిగా శుభ్రం చేసిన అనంతరం అలంకరించి వసంత మంటపంలో ఉంచి 48 రోజుల పాటు భక్తుల దర్శించుకునే అవకాశం కల్పిస్తారు. జూలై 1వ తేదీ నుంచి స్వామివారి దర్శనం మొదలైంది.

ఉదయం 6 గంటల నుంచి 2 గంటల వరకూ, తిరిగి మధ్యాహ్నం 2 గంటల నుంచి రాత్రి 9 గంటల వరకూ స్వామివారిని దర్శించుకునేందుకు ఆలయ నిర్వాహకులు ఏర్పాట్లు చేశారు. భక్తుల సౌకర్యార్థం ఆన్లైన్ టికెట్ బుకింగ్ సౌకర్యం కూడా కల్పించారు.
పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో భక్తులు తరలివస్తుండటంతో కాంచీపురం జిల్లా యంత్రాంగం కూడా విస్తృత ఏర్పాట్లు చేసింది. చివరిసారిగా 1979లో దర్శనం ఇచ్చిన శ్రీ అత్తివరద స్వామి వారు ఈ ఏడాది జూలై 1 నుంచి ఆగస్టు 17వ తేదీ వరకూ దర్శనం ఇస్తారు.
